Funding News by Jessica Wilde (Treasurer/Fundraiser):
I have been working hard on applying for funding,
keeping the accounts, and writing reports for the last
2 years. I have been successful in many of my
applications and have received around £50,000 for the
last 2 years for the playscheme. This money has been
used to make the playscheme an affordable one, to be
able to pay for staff to work at the playscheme and
also train them.
We have funding to carry out playschemes until October
2006. I will be working hard to apply for more
funding to carry on the playschemes after October
2006. I will inform you all whether we have received
funding to carry on, on this website.
I have taken great pleasure in doing this work for the
playscheme. Knowing that deaf children and hearing
children of deaf parents are able to access a
playscheme that meets their communication needs and
also meet other deaf children who are like them and
bond friendships. This is the opportunity that I
never had when I was a child.
The funding that we have received has allowed us to
several of things such as providing playschemes in the
school holidays, holidays away (we have provided two
holidays, one to Margate and one to Osmington,
Dorset), day trips to Panto and Snow Boarding, deaf
events based in London such as Grease and so on. Many
of the children have enjoyed attending these trips
with their friends, please have a look at the photos
of the children on the website.
I would like to say a great big thank you to everyone
who has made this project possible and also hope that
many deaf children and hearing children of deaf
parents have many happy years attending this
playscheme!

The London Deaf Athletics Association Schools Day took place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Stadium on 19th April 2006. 150 Deaf Children from deaf/mainstream schools, including Deaf Children from the Greenwich Deaf Playscheme participated in this exciting competition.
A big thanks to Sandra Campbell - LDAA Secretary/Development Officer for organising this event and a contributory thank you to Crystal Palace for the use of the stadium, Bourne Sports and 30 volunteers who gave up their time to make this event a day to remember for all. Following this success, plans are underway for next year's event! Watch out for this space.
